PERSONALITY
ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Good
LIKES: himself, pink, rebelling against authority
DISLIKES: boring people, rules, himself
  • Main Character Syndrome - Quentin is the poster child for main character syndrome. He literally won't shut up about how awesome and important he is and how stupid everyone else is. Is it very cringe? Definitely. Is it a sign of some deep-seated insecurity? Absolutely. Is he going to spend any more time than is 100% necessary dissecting that or trying to self-improve? Nope!
  • Snark - Quentin doesn't wear meta-commentary in-joke t-shirts anymore, but he's still a snarky little turd. Recently he's attempted to be slightly less abrasive due to realizing that it actually kinda sucks when nobody likes you, but making little quips and pop culture references and endless complaining are pretty solidly baked into his personality at this point. He is still the exact type of person to watch Rick & Morty and tell you that you're not smart enough to understand it.
  • Tsun - Quentin cares deeply for the people who have been kind to him or have had hope for him. He wants somewhere to belong and a family to be part of, but the edgelord main character persona he's created for himself limits how he feels he can express that affection. In his younger years he was staunchly resistant to admitting he cared about anyone (see: Logan, Jeff the Land Shark), and usually pointing out that he cared would send him angrily running off to show how much he DOESN'T EVEN CARE OKAY!! but he's grown out of pretending his tsun behavior is genuine. Nowadays he throws out sassy comments, back-handed compliments, and is by no means a nice person to talk to, but he's more or less okay with people realizing he does actually care deep down. They just have to read between the lines to get there.
  • Rebel (without a cause) - The one thing Quentin hates more than anything in the world is being told who or what to be. He told his then-girlfriend Idie "all I've ever wanted was the right to wake up every day and be who I want to be," and when he was younger every attempt by an outside party to mold him into being a certain way was met with immediate hostility and Quentin trying his very best to become the exact opposite. At one point he ran away from Logan's school to go to evil kid school because the teachers didn't like him... and then immediately proceeded to rebel against evil kid school. In his current canon point, he's obstinate and cynical, but he allows his team to set expectations for him that he doesn't immediately buck—as long as they let him be an asshole.
  • Hero (only kind of ironic) - Quentin has made significant sacrifices for the greater good for much longer than anyone, including Quentin himself, has ever truly considered himself a hero or anything positive for that matter. He provides psychic defense against the Red Onslaught, a version of Red Skull using Charles Xavier's significant telepathic powers, gets the crap kicked out of him while trying to destroy the Hellfire Academy (evil kid school), psychically battles an ancient technopath despite it causing him obvious pain, throws himself into a brain-eating robot to save Krakoa, and ends up getting disemboweled while investigating an unknown distress signal. Quentin may have a reputation for being a trouble-maker at best, psychopath at worst, but when shit gets real, he can and will take a beating to save the world. Recent canon has shown Quentin fully embracing the idea of being a hero and a reliable teammate—even if he still talks about being the star of the show.

ABILITIES
Preamble
Characters with the same or similar powersets as Quentin have been around for 60+ years in the Marvel universe. Quentin himself has been around for over 20 years (okay, half of that he was in a jar, but don't worry about it). There's a whole lot of Stuff, and most of it was not written with any kind of consistency in mind. With that said, I'm going to do my best to distill this down to something coherent.

Telepathy
Note: Quentin has a complex about people being honest and as a result tends to be pretty upfront about either getting permission or at least giving people fair warning before using his powers. He talks a lot of shit about lobotomizing people and whatnot, but he doesn't actually back it up. By default I do not write Quentin using his powers invasively without player permission, but I just wanted to point out that ICly he's not exactly a sneaky chessmaster.

From a (mostly) scientific perspective, Quentin has a mutated section of his brain that essentially acts as an antenna for electrical neuron stuff happening in the brains of other living things. The "power" of a telepath correlates with their range, number of people they can affect, and ability to overpower mental defenses. Quentin is an "Omega" level mutant, meaning his abilities have no definable upper limit, though he is far from reaching his full potential. His skills are fairly rudimentary compared to his peers, and he is a chronic attention seeker, so nothing he does is particularly subtle or complex.
  • He can sense/perceive the existence of minds in a non-invasive capacity. This is involuntary and is one of the primary ways he identifies people.
  • He can receive electrical signals from other brains. That's your classic mind-reading, memory-scanning, and telepathic communication stuff. Worth noting is he gets all information exactly how the other person experiences it. For example, Daredevil has learned to use his enhanced senses to compensate for being blind, but if Quentin were to read his mind, he'd get a bunch of sensory overload gobbledygook. Similarly, if Quentin downloaded memories from someone whose memories were fake, he wouldn't have any way to tell.
  • He can send electrical signals to other brains. This is stuff like mind control and memory manipulation, but also can be used to knock someone unconscious, change what someone sees, or affect emotional state and pain receptors. Due to the natural plasticity brains tend to have, significant or long-lasting changes to someone's psyche are complex and beyond Quentin's skill level.
  • He can visualize the inner workings of minds as a physical place, called a mindscape. Most often he and any other involved parties appear unconscious to outside observers, but he has occasionally been shown to remain aware of his surroundings while also having conversations within a mindscape. Presumably it depends on how much mental attention is needed at the time.
  • Notably, Quentin has an incredibly impressive level of control for his age and experience level and is one of the most powerful telepaths in his canon in terms of raw talent. Most young telepaths struggle to not accidentally manipulate people's minds or "overhear" thoughts they weren't meant to hear. This does not appear to be a problem Quentin has had, at least not since he was very new to his powers.

Telekinesis
There isn't as much lore about how telekinesis works compared to telepathy, but it appears to be essentially manifesting psionic energy as physical force. Quentin's telekinesis is strong but not overly complex. Objects created or affected by his telekinesis have a faint pink glow.
  • Quentin can move objects ranging in size from a bullet to a car. He has not been shown to lift anything larger than car-sized, but he can move multiple large objects simultaneously. He also uses this ability to fly.
  • He can make force fields. The largest bubbles he's been shown to create have been approximately 20 feet in diameter, but he can also "shrinkwrap" shields around himself or others to protect them from major harm. Additionally, Quentin uses his force fields in non-traditional ways, such as creating platforms for teammates to jump on or a shield off of which Cyclops can richochet his optic blasts.
  • Similar to the force fields, Quentin can create objects from pure psionic energy. He is unique among his peers in the complexity of these constructs, ranging from a slingshot to a small tank. Quentin's most favored psychic weapon is a shotgun, and the "bullets" of these weapons can have both telepathic or telekinetic force, depending on his preference. For example, he can repel attackers with the blasts from a psychic machine gun, or he can knock someone unconscious without physically harming them with a shot from a psychic revolver.
